HAVE A MAINTENCE SCHEDULE. I have a strict schedule for maintence of my home.  Since I prefer to work in my real estate practice rather than performing maintenance on my home, I use the services of a HANDYMAN service based in Hamilton.  I've written about this service before when I had a list of maintenance tasks that were scheduled for July.

My home is 2 1/2 years old and when I did a walk through inside and out, I made a list and checked it twice and called the Handyman service.  They did a wonderful job of minor repairs and maintenance tasks.  However, my house needed a serious cleaning on the outside.  Folks in brick and/or stone homes don't have the problem of dirty siding, mildew growing on siding and decking material.  Then there are those dirty windows and, of course, there's no need cleaing the windows unless the dirty screens are done also. 

So, yesterday was the day to POWER WASH the exterior of my home from the ground up, clean those windows and screens, window wells, and anything else that got in the way. 

The front of my home gets limited sun and is subject to mildew.  Power Washing works.

WHAT?  HANNA, YOU'VE NEVER BEEN FISHING??  GOODNESS, LET'S GO.

The daughter in the family that is staying with me while their home is being finished asked me about the fishing tackle standing in the corner of my garage. 

Hanna asked, "Is that all your fishing stuff?"

"Sure, I love to fish", say I.

I asked Hanna's Dad, Joe, if they would like to take the children to the park and let them catch a few fish.  "Sure Lenn, when can we go?"  We agreed on Sunday. Joe had to get a fishing license.  We set out for Franklin Park last Sunday about 8:30 a.m.  I love folks who get an early start.  Of course, with a 2 year old, they're up at 6:00 a.m. even on a Sunday. 

So, I packed fishing gear for Joe and Hanna, Tiffany Hanna's Mom and Jack her brother weren't going to fish.  Just keeping up with Jack is a full time job for Tiffany. 

So, Hanna learned to cast a spinning rod and reel, watch the bobber go under and reel in Bluegill. 

A nice summer adventure for a young lady.  Start them young, Lenn says.

Careful Jack.  That hook is sharp.                                           Hanna can cast almost like a pro.

FRANKLIN PARK, A WONDERFUL PUBLIC PARK IN PURCELLVILLE VIRGINIA OFFERS MUCH FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS. 

I have house guests for several more weeks waiting for their home to be completed (see below).  Since the family has an 11 year old daughter and a 2 year old son, finding interesting activities is always a challenge. 

HEY, LET'S GO FISHING!  First, let Lenn determine that there are fish in the pond.  Nothing is more disappointing to a child than to go fishing and not catch anything.  So, to verify the presence of fish in Franklin Park Lake, I took my favorite fishing rod to the lake yesterday afternoon and . . . .

Oh Boy!!  The first catch was just about 6 feet off shore.  The second fish was about 15 feet off shore.   Slightly larger.  Let's go a bit farther out and see what's out there . . . .

Great.  Cast that little Black Gnat out about 30 feet and the catch is probably about as big as they're going to get for these frisky little Blue Gills.

FRANKLIN PARK in Purcellville Virginia offers many outdoor activities for Loudoun County residents. 

Sometimes this week, I'll be taking Hanna to the park an introduce her to the wonderful outdoor sport of Blue Gill fishing.  This week, I'll try for a Largemouth Bass.  I know they're in there.

Franklin Park offers fishing as a "Catch and Release" activity.  State fishing license is required for folks 16 or older. 

Franklin Park is never crowded and there is ample shoreline for anyone interested. 

Franklin Park Lake (below) is a convenient place to introduce folks to fishing.  It's free, it's fun and it's a wonderful outdoor activity for the children.  There is more than enough room around the lake for all.
